Main areas of expertise/interest for con panels:

Alternate History, Nearby Stars, Space (in general), APAs, Conrunning, Writers Workshops, Film, Sexuality, Paleontology, Cryptozoology.

Age: 48

Residence: Lisle, Illinois

GOH at: Congenial, Duckcon 2002, Windycon 2005

First SF: As far as I can remember, it was DANGEROUS VISIONS, and the story RIDERS OF THE PURPLE WAGE within it. This was when the book first came out, in 1967 or so. I was ten. The story, of course, is not something you'd have a ten year old read - my mom was a SF Book Club subscriber, and had been a fan of SF since her girlhood in the early 1940s. Skiffy everywhere and prozines up the wazoo.

First Fantasy:  Aside of the Andrew Lang Coloured Fairy Books, my first for-sure-on-my-own fantasy was THE HOBBIT around 1970 (when I was 13).

First Convention: the 1977 Midwestcon in Cincinnati. (I had been going to gaming conventions for three years before that.)  Have been attending cons regularly since; I used to do one a month in my younger days, but I make only three or four a year now.

Favorite Convention: Congenial, followed by Duckon and Windycon.

First NASFIC/Worldcon: Louisville (1978) and Noreascon (1980). I've since attended in 81, 82, 83, 86, 88, 89, 91, 93, 94, 97, 03, 04

Bidcomms: On the executive boards of the 1988/Cincinnati and 2000/Chicago bids. No, I was not active in Chicago 2000, for a number of reasons, primarily overload and family matters.

Concoms: Have been at department-head level at several conventions (Marcon, X-Con, Congenial, Whatcon), worked on others at varying levels (Chicon 82, Windycon, Capricon) and founded CONGENIAL, which is still going (since 1988). Presently semi-retired as a SMoF due to the demands/needs of family.

Fanzines: The sporadically issued KATMANDU VISIONS, and a host of apa work and letter-hacking.

APAs: Started with TAPS and APA-H back in the late 70s, and branched out to regional apas (Windyapa, Capacity, Mishap) and special interest apas (APA-69, Interfaith, Apartif, Point of Divergence, Ecumenicapa, usw). Ran TAPS, WINDYAPA, APA-69 (for 10 years) at various times in the past two decades, and founded others (Point of Divergence, Ecumenicapa, Interfaith). Presently active as the OE of Point of Divergence, the Alternate History APA / Writer's Workshop.

Alternate History Credits: Judge of the Sidewise Book Award for Alternate History literature, official editor and founder of Point of Divergence. Wrote foreword on the Brazilian AH pro collection Phantastica Brasiliana, explaining the background of AH.

Science Credits:  Mostly from many deep interests since boyhood; see the interest list at the top. I'm very well read in them. The Sexuality stuff comes from being the OE and member of APA-69 for fifteen years.
