NANDO -Raleigh News and Observer
Probably the broadest news source on the net, split into Global, US National, US Politics, Opinions, Business, Infotech, Health and Science, and Entertainment. |
NYC Times
Excellent news service. Check out their science and technology sections. |
London Times
The Best of the British news services. I also recommend the London Telegraph and the wonderful BBC News Online. All are a welcome contrast to the AP-heavy stuff of most US sites. |
CNN
Yes, they do update this as it happens. Also see Fox News and Sky News from the UK. |
Reuters and AP
Mostly valuable because it's constantly updated on a regular basis. There is also The Wire, the complete AP service, which has to be accessed through a news site of one sort or other first. Also UPI's headline service. |
MSNBC
Well, more for completeness sake. This site is a terrible resource hog, and crashes a lot of browsers. |
APBONLINE
Has to be seen to be believed. The online Police Gazette, complete with cop scanners online and the like. |
Drudge
Very good multi-listing of News sources and columnists. Yes. I'm aware of the man's rep. It's a good resource. See also Lucianne.com for news links. |
Molly Ivins
My favorite columnist, from her Fort Worth (TX) paper. See also the columnists from the NY Times and the Washington Post. Other favorite columnists include Cal Thomas, Richard Reeves, Hester's travel stories, Dan Savage's Savage Love, Reiter's Nothing Personal, and Blue Glow on TV. |
The Comics
This is from the Houston Chronicle, and requires a (free) password. Also see the Philadelphia Enquirer's set of strips, Red Meat; Helen, Sweetheart of the Internet; the Piranha Club; User Friendly; Tom Tomorrow; Dry Bones; Tom the Dancing Bug; Carol Lay; Pathetic Geek Stories). |
Washington Post
Excellent politics and government coverage. |
Chinese News
I'm keeping track of the People's Daily, Xinhua News Service, and the South China Morning Post. China Daily, Chinese Radio are some others. |
Slate and Salon
Salon is presently my favorite on-line magazine - lots of depth. Also see Newsweek, Time, RollCall (US Congressionally focused magazine). |
